Celebrating the Arts

Highlighting the vision, creativity, passion and hard work of visual and performing artists

Appreciation of the craft- There is a certain skill set that is required when photographing art produced by another individual. It takes a deeper understanding of the artist's intention and an awareness of the dedication and work that goes into a piece. It means seeing how shapes and shadows interplay within the piece and its surrounding environment, or how viewers interact with it, all of which help tell the story of the artist's work. It means being sensitive to power of performing arts and being keenly aware of how the musician, dancer or actor engages with the music, fellow performers and the audience. I have honed these skills so that I can capture the moments that communicate the transformative power of the art.

Communicate the vision- The artistic process is a unique combination of vision, creativity, intuition and collaboration balanced with craft, technique, and discipline along with the strategic use of time and resources. To make this otherwise invisible process visible, art professionals must more fully conceptualize, articulate and communicate the elements of their unique artistic process, their vision and mission in an effective message. Photographs are an essential component in this endeavor by providing clear, visual documentation that allows the artist to reach a broader range of viewers and grow awareness about their work.
