Capture impactful moments- I have extensive experience with higher-ed and educational photography and have learned to capture moments that highlight the student experience, feature accomplished faculty or researchers and illustrate the beauty of the campus all with the discretion and thoughtfulness that it takes to navigate the wide range of experiences that exist within an environment of discovery and learning.
Lighting Competency- College campuses, schools, research areas and medical labs, and hospitals often have challenging lighting situations. I have worked diligently to hone my skills to address even the most difficult circumstances. Whether it is a dimly lit theater or that greenish fluorescent lighting in the gym or lab, I have developed technics to produce images with the most authentic, pleasing colors and tones.
Ability to work under pressure- University, medical and research photography is often fast paced with little time allotted to making a stunning portrait in a tiny office or capturing a physician as he makes his rounds at lightning speed. Many times, direction is not provided and therefore it is up to me to find the right moments that tell the story or create an environmental portrait that illustrates the lifework of a professor. So, I am agile, can adapt and pivot quickly and have a bag of gear that allows me to address many different needs and situations.
Social IQ with energy and enthusiasm- Working on a college campus, in a hospital or research environment requires discretion, thoughtfulness and cultural competency. These are unique communities of highly intelligent people from a diverse set of backgrounds pursuing very challenging goals. It is essential that I understand the scene from a broad range of perspectives. Having photographed in these spaces for many years, I have the knowledge needed to interact in a gracious manner with every member of the community; from student to the professor, chancellor to housekeeping, donor to researcher, physician to patient; I delight in building relationships with each individual and championing them in whatever role that take within the ecosystem of the university or hospital setting.
